LAHORE - Water issue can bring Pakistan and India on the brink of war if it will not be settled by taking fast track measures.
These views were expressed by Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, chairman steering committee PML-Q (Like-Minded Group) while addressing a press conference at party office on Tuesday. Faction’s additional secretary general, Nasir Mehmood advocate was also present on the occasion.
Kasuri said Pakistan should take up the issue with India on the basis of equality, while New Delhi should also reciprocate Islamabad’s endeavours in this regard seriously keeping in view the possibilities of an armed confrontation between the two nuclear neighbours.
He said international powers should influence India to settle the Kashmir issue, as it was vital for solving the issue of Afghanistan. Western powers should cover the interests of Pakistan in the region keeping in view that water was a matter of life and death for Pakistanis and could flash a war in the region, he added.
He said due to the poor diplomacy of the incumbent rulers Kashmir issue was not mentioned in the declaration that came after Indian premier’s visit to Saudi Arabia.
However, Pakistan enjoys brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia and they were time-tested and Indian premier visit to our brotherly country could not impact on Pakistan, he maintained. Kasuri said the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan should have written a letter to Saudi Government before the Indian prime minister’s visit in which they should suggest them to put Kashmir issue in the declaration.
He said Indian premier has abandoned his stance on Kashmir issue, which he took in Sharm-ul-Sheikh, while the incumbent rulers had also not adopted any clear policy on the unsettled issue so far.
Kasuri said their government was near to a solution of Kashmir and that was also acceptable to the Kashmiris, however they had not struck any secret deal on Kashmir and the current government should made public the details of any alleged deal if it really possessed factual information in this regard.
Paying rich tributes to the armed forces regarding their role in fighting terrorism, he said extremist elements were negating the teachings of Quaid-i-Azam and armed forces were doing a wonderful job by curbing them.

  3. Water issue with India should not be neglected/ignored. Pakistan should lobby for its rights on an international level.

  4. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

Lobbying alone won't help. Much of the non-Muslim world is not dependent on Muslim World for anything significant.

We need to do that, which will get their attention.

For example, as I mentioned in another thread recently, we need to build next generation products, to gain significant influence in trade markets of non-Muslim nations.

This is one way of making ourselves be heard.

We desperately need our voice to be heard. We desperately need to get rid of bad rulers, put up good rulers to govern over us, so we can do something about our predicament.

Situation won't improve untill and unless we can influence trade markets of western countries/states/nations.

Jews are controlling economy of Muslim World through the rulers they have put in place, to do their bidding. Its high time Muslims started waking up to this horror, and started the struggle to counter this growing problem.

We need to get back on track.

Mr. Kasuri is also responsible for this situation, He was the foreign minister in Musharaf regime when they suddenly took a U turn on foreign policy viz a viz Kashmir dispute. It was during his tenure as foreign minister that India was awarded so many one sided concessions, India erected barbed wire fencing along the disputed line of control dividing the two Kashmir's. They built 26 dams on the rivers & dozens more are under construction. Kashmiri Mujahideen, awam & freedom fighters were declared terrorists. Indian agents among Kashmiri leadership were received on red carpets in Islamabad, Pakistan Nawaz kashmiris were pushed to the corner. Pakistan's fifty years old Kashmir policy was diluted by new & strange formulas & back track Mufahamat. After offering so much on a platter to India, they are still saying same old phrase that Kashmir hamara atut aang hai....what Pakistan got in return....drought in Punjab & Sind!!

Mr. Kasuri you are responsible for all this mess, you & your boss Musharaf must be held accountable for this growing water problem. You must tell the nation that what Pakistan got in return from India & remember if you did not fight for Kashmir..ok...but you have to fight for water & raise the problem on every international forum. India will never be a true friend. I hope you know all the five rivers flow from Kashmir to Pakistan, Kashmir issue & Pakistani water issue are the two sides of same coin, You cannot separate the two, that's why Quaed e Azam RA had called Kashmir as Sheh Rag of Pakistan, but who cares about what he said.

BTW Pak army does not have time to fight for water they are busy fighting US's war of terror, only yesterday they captured Bajaur agency.
