OK so what i don't get is why evolution and intelligent design have to be considered mutually exclusive. I personally think the two concepts complement each other beautifully.
Whereas Intelligent Design implies that there is a greater universal force that determines the development of existence, Evolution is just a theory of how that Intelligence brought about the desired result.
Intelligent design claims one central thing ; All processes that have led to the creation of life on this planet are guided by one central intelligence. Why can this central intelligence not choose evolution as the vessel of development?
I personally do not believe that life can be created by sheer coincidence. But i also do not believe that it requires an old man in the sky to form some clay in a particular shape and "breathe" life into it.
ID and Darwinism are not mutually exclusive. ID is the basic set of rules which guides the process of evolution.
For instance just the incredibly complex workings of the human hearing ability would have required that evolution proceed with a specific purpose. The fact that one accepts that this purpose existed prior to homo sapiens means that one accepts the existence of Intelligent Design.
However where does it say that this purpose cannot have been fulfilled by evolution?
Darwinism excludes the possiblity of TRADITIONAL creationist lore. As well it should. Other traditional/religious theories of creation contradict the scientific knowledge mankind has acquired so far. However the basic concept of ID does not.
I don't see why evolution cannot be considered a divine miracle. In fact i think that controlling evolution is a far greater example of a divine miracle than the supposed instantaneous creation of all life.
God is the intelligent designer who through the process of evolution created a being as sophisticated as a human.
