  1. JS Sahib,

No indirect or Direct message was meant! Just the entertainment part provoked me to send it to you. Alisha Cheenai's voice is a big weakness for me.

Reminds me of this shair (Please don't take it on you as Its not intended for u).. An old friend from hyderabad used to narrate this shair on appropriate occasions:

RAQEEB E ROH SEYYA, **** KA BACCHA!
ABROU YAAR KO KEHTA HAY BHOUN (DOG'S BARK IN URDU/NOT THE BHOUN OF ONE'S EYES)

  19. Shan-e-Muaseeqi Musician,
Mr. Anwar Masood was my calss fellow at Public High School Gujrat in 1951-53.
He always used to share his Punjabi Poetry with me where he joined Oriental College for his M.A.(in Persian) and most of his Master Piece and best poetry was composed during his stay at the Hostel of Oriental College Lahore during the period 1956-1959.
As a man he is very decent, humble and noble person.
My first Punajbi Poem 'Akh' in 1973 was composed under his guidance.
Unfortunately I could not continue with poetry seriously due to my waivering and mercury nature.
Now I need your guidance to improve upon this weakness.

  22. Dear Sing isking,
    Very touching and rich poetry.
Is it from Sant Ram Udhasi?

Your translation of Ambrdi by Anwar Masood is very impressive and makes its theme easy to understand.
The feelings and love of a mother, even, for her spoiled children, has been exposed in soft words by Anwar Masood.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF AVTAR PASH FAMOUS POEM

    The Most Dangerous
Most treacherous is not the robbery
    of hard earned wages
Most horrible is not the torture by the police.
Most dangerous is not the graft for the treason and greed.
To be caught while asleep is surely bad
surely bad is to be buried in silence
But it is not most dangerous.
To remain dumb and silent in the face of trickery
Even when just, is definitely bad
Surely bad is reading in the light of a firefly
But it is not most dangerous
    Most dangerous is
To be filled with dead peace
Not to feel agony and bear it all,
    Leaving home for work
    And from work return home
Most dangerous is the death of our dreams.
    Most dangerous is that watch
    Which run on your wrist
But stand still for your eyes.
    Most dangerous is that eye
Which sees all but remains frostlike,
The eye that forgets to kiss the world with love,
The eye lost in the blinding mist of the material world.
That sinks the simple meaning of visible things
And is lost in the meaning return of useless games.
    Most dangerous is the moon
Which rises in the numb yard
    After each murder,
But does not pierce your eyes like hot chilies.
    Most dangerous is the song
    Which climbs the mourning wail
In order to reach your ears
And repeats the cough of an evil man
At the door of the frightened people.
    Most dangerous is the night
Falling in the sky of living souls,
    Extinguishing them all
In which only owls shriek and jackals growl,
And eternal darkness covers all the windows.
    Most heinous is the direction
In which the sun of the soul light
Pierces the east of your body.
    Most treacherous is not the
    robbery of hard earned wages
Most horrible is not the torture of police
Most dangerous is not graft taken for greed and treason.”

I did not think someone totally immersed in politics and religion will have any time for the "Sanf-e-Nazuk". But I am glad to be proven wrong. May be because you were sacked by the President of the newly formed Cabinet. Did you ever find the towel?

To welcome you here is something I hope you will like.

  28. Hi there, Musician, hello achtung. And thus we meet again. Musician yours was Lata, wasn't it? And achtung's as well? Both very, very pretty songs. Musician's profile is easier to understand than yours achtung. If you could bear in mind the lyrics of one of your own favourite songs: Gairon pe karam, apno pe sitam ... ye zulme na kar, you might have more understanding for some of our positions expressed elsewhere on the blog. Anyway, thanks for a lovely concert.

P.S. The towel in question just disappeared. Bet choosey came back and stole it.

  30. achtung, beautifully apt song on more levels than one. Rafi our marvellous Rafi sounding so young reminds us our time is passing as well and then the question of almost methaphysical dimensions. Kon hai apna, kon paraya? Well, to simplify, count everyone as yours until they give you reason to think you may have been mistaken. And even then... So see you later on other sites. This is my first time here, by the way. 39. Ye na thee hamaree qismat - Ghalib Ghazal (see above)

Ye na thee hamaree qismat ke wisaal-e-yaar hota
it was not in my fate to meet my lover

agar aur jeete rehte yahee intezaar hota
had I lived longer, this would still be my only desire

koee mere dil se pooche tere teer-e-neemkash ko
someone ask me about your half-drawn arrow

ye khalish kahaan se hotee jo jigar ke paar hota
would i even feel this pain if it had pierced my heart

kahoon kis se main ke kya hai, shab-e-gham buree bala hai
to whom shall I narrate the pangs of these evenings of sorrow

mujhe kya bura tha marna agar ek baar hota
i would have not resented this death, had it come only once

hue mar ke ham jo ruswa, hue kyon na gharq-e-dariya
that I died and was disgraced, why was I not just drowned

na kabhee janaaza uthata, na kaheen mazaar hota
never would there be a funeral, nowhere would a tomb be erected

ye masaail-e-tasawwuf, ye tera bayaan ‘Ghalib’!
this mysticism, these statements of yours Ghalib

tujhe hum walee samajhate, jo na baada_khwaar hota
you would be a saint, if only you were not inebriated

    Was sharp as sunlight.
    He was thirsty for perfumes.
His color was the color of a rose,
The son of a fair mother.
    I was enamored!

    His eyes,
    Were an evening in springtime.
    His hair, a dark cloud.
    His lips,
    A rising autumn dawn.
    I was enamored!

    His breath
    Was filled with flowers,
    Like a sandalwood garden.
    Spring danced thru his body
So bathed was it in fragrances.
    I was enamored!.

    In his words
    Blew the eastern breeze,
Like the sound of a blackbird.
His smile was the whiteness of a crane in the rice fields,
Taking flight at the clap of a hand.
    I was enamored!.

    I laid
    A bed of love
    In the moonlight.
    My body-sheet was stained
The instant he laid his foot on my bed.
    I was enamored!

    The corners of my eyes,
    Hurt.
A flood of tears engulfed me.
All night long I tried to fathom
How he did this to me.
    I was enamored!

    Early in the morning
I scrubbed and bathed my body
    With vaTana.
    But embers kept bursting out,
    And my hands flagged.
    I was enamored!

    I crushed choori,
    He would not eat it.
So I fed him the flesh of my heart.
He took flight, such a flight did he take,
    That he never returned.
    I was enamored!

    Mother! Mother!
    I befriended a hawk.
    A plume on his head
    Bells on his feet,
    He came pecking for grain.
    I was enamored!

  41. Mah-e-Forum Sehnaz,
What a delicate, soft and tender wording to express touching feelings.
"I fed him the flesh of my heart",
    What a beautiful climax?
    Very Good.

javed g thnx a lot .. well one another for u...its nt ma words but one of gr8 punjabi poet(indian) he is fav of ma husband so is mine now..lolzz...

    People worship god.
I worship this separation from you.
It is worth Haj to a hundred Meccas,
    This separation from you.

People say I am as brilliant as the sun,
    They say I am famous.
What a fire it has lit in me,
    This separation from you.

    Behind me is my shadow,
    Ahead, is my darkness.
I fear that it might leave me,
    This separation from you.

No taint of the body is in it,
    Nor litter of the mind,
    All has been winnowed out,
    By this separation from you.

When sorrow comes, bringing with it
    Loneliness and pain,
I pull it close to me,
    This separation from you.

    Sometimes it colors my words
Sometimes it weaves through my songs,
It has taught me great deal,
    This separation from you.

When sorrow, defeated, fell at my feet,
    Amazed at my fidelity,
The world came out to see
    This separation from you.

    Love earned me fame.
    People flocked to praise me.
    It wept in my embrace,
    This separation from you.

The world turned out to tell me,
    That I had been unwise.
It sat me on a throne today
    This separation from you.

  43. Dear Javedsheikh Sahib, You very kindly attributed to me a thorough knowledge of this site, which was not quite accurate. I came here quite by chance. But to make up for my ignorance, I've spent the last few days going from page to page to understand a bit better what sher-o-naghma is all about. I was astounded by the extraordinary quality of the videos assembled on it, even if some of them have been deactivated. Also, currents and counter-currents of animosity also became apparent. But never mind. I can't post a complete video, some technical hindrance there. So I've just given two links above. These will be the songs of our future revolution, I'm convinced. Both are by our Hafiz-e-Quran revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, who's been somewhat under-represented on the site, but this is only by the way.

My favourite singer is the greatest the Subcontinent has ever produced, in my eyes, that is. I mean of course Nusrat Fathe Ali Khan, whose music is not only song, but also a whole philosophy of life. Mah-e-Forum Shanaz was the first to post something by him, for which my many thanks. Salam Sahib and some others then added a few more Nusrat clips. And there were two Rahat clips as well, of which only one remained active. There you are. Thanks for everything.

  44. Musician, whenever you return. There, I managed my gift to the Forum. I'm pleased with myself. Further, I was thinking of changing my nick which so irritated you at some point. What would you advise between Rejoice and baadakhwaar? I'm up for either. Thanks for everything, too. Good site, all in all. Also could you please tell our Sikh friend here that the best version of Awwal Allah Noor Upaya was sung by Nusrat and his qawwals in the concert he gave at the Rangharia Sabha Gurdwara in London in 1989. Cheers and take care. You'll get those advisors yet, if all goes well.

Changing your nick? Don't even think about it. You could not have a better nick. I wish I had gone for that. Having read your posts, it is not you who gets things wrong and yet you thought your nick irritated me. Well, you definitely got this one wrong. My quotation of Ghalib's verse only referred to your "biyan" hence absence of "baadakhawar". I hope you will tell yourself off for misconstruing it.

If I had to choose two verses from Faiz these will be:

"Dunya ne teri yaad se begaana kar dia
tujh se bhi dilfreb hain gham roozgar ke"

    and

"Youn naa tha mein ne faqat chaha tha youn ho ja-ay"
I don't think the above can be matched. What a thought.

I find it difficult to pick one poet as my favourite becasue every now and then some poet, even not a famous one comes up with a gem. For example, a relatively unknow poet Zaheer Kashmiri wrote:

Seerat na ho to aarz-o-rukhsar sab ghalat
khusboo urri to phool faqat rung reh gia

and I know no other verses by the same poet.
Having said that,A certain Mirza Asad-ullah Khan Ghalib said:

"hain aur bhi dunya mein sukhanwar buhat acchhay
kehtein hain ke Ghalib ka hai andaaz-e-bian aur"

No doubt we will get the advisors but in the meantime "Rejoice"

  48. Sitar-e-Forum aftab, thank you, thank you. I'll do that straightaway. Listen and enjoy. It is a real kindness you have shown me by posting this.

Musician, sorry forgot your title. It will take some time to get used to the various ways people are addressed. I'll get back to you as soon as I've finished listening to Nusrat. But thanks as of now.

  49. Shan-e-Mauseeqi Musician, I apologise profusely for all past misunderstandings. I shall definitely be on my guard to avoir any such thing in the future. But you know how it is? Even if the flesh is willing, the spirit is more often than not weak. so just give me a blanket pardon for anything I may get wrong.

Your verses were all beautiful, as beautiful as some of the music you've managed to put on to this site. At the moment, the Mukesh (Bhooli Hui Yaadon) and the Ranjishi sahi by the aging Mehdi Hasan are both haunting me. They also have some sort of a melody resemblance. And I'm glad that Jagjit Singh figures so prominently among the singers here. From what I've heard, he's among the few persons to be supporting the dying Mehdi Hasan. When in need, a Sikh will never let you down, we can conclude from that, what?

So till the next time, simple, singular, sensitive and generous Musician and with my deep gratitude to you, Jaan-e-Mauseeqi Javedsheik and all the others who have made this site blossom and bloom. We'll all rejoice together, now and when the time of our glory comes.
