Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto coins to be issued!

(31 posts)
  1. Pakistan set to issue Bhutto coin

Pakistan is to issue a commemorative coin to mark the first anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The State Bank of Pakistan will issue about 300,000 special 10-rupee (16 US cents) coins.

The coin will read in Urdu, "Daughter of the East, Benazir Bhutto".

Ms Bhutto was killed in a suicide bomb and gun attack in Rawalpindi on 27 December last year after an election rally for her Pakistan People's Party.

The coin will be issued on 27 December, the bank announced.

Ms Bhutto has already had Islamabad's international airport named after her, along with a hospital in Rawalpindi and a key road.

Her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, became co-chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, which won February's elections. He took over as Pakistan's president in September.

what about the people who doesnt know whom to vote. it is very convinient to blame generals. according to ayaz amir "zardari ki soorat main pakistan ke sath jo waqooah ho chuka hai..." and i think after PPP leadership people of pakistan are responsible for that.

    azeem1,

One major leap has taken place & that is the loss of centralized control of electronic media & info flow, which made the people apolitical in past.

Now there are multiple & distributed electronic media, which making the people political (forcing them to think, not just for their own family but of Pakistan too in global perspective)

And thats the solution, these people will bring the new leadership by themselves after more & more political thinking.

Whats wrong with Zardari? I used to have a lot of respect for Ayaz Ameer but his recent columns and his appearance on Capital Talk a few days back are just disappointing. He is yet another pseudo intelligentsia pointing every problem in the Pakistani society but unable to suggest a solution. I know, you know, everybody in Pakistan knows that we have the problems of corruption, militancy, instability, jirgas, jageerdaris, injustice...so does Ayaz Ameer and he writes it in his columns decorating them with letters and words. Thats the only difference I see between him and anybody sitting on a thadda. My point is we have these problems but at least we have a democracy and it does not matter how looli langdi it is; it's still better than a dictatorship. We should be thanking God for it and be patient for it to get mature. People like Ayaz Ameer think a country and its society is like a machine that can be rectified within hours or perhaps days. He forgets that democracy is not an event it is a process. A democratically elected Zardari is hundred times better than a dictator Mush. And whats wrong with him? I think the media is doing injustice to a man who has gone through rough and tough more than any other politician in Pakistan. What does he think about Nawaz Sharif his own leader? Do you honestly think Sharif is different from Zardari? I think; No not at all... everybody has blemishes on their past. Think of any politician, and you know something that is fishy. Imran Khan, Qazi anybody. Why single out Zardari who has been punished for crimes that were never proved in a court of law under microscopic investigations by Sharif and Mush regimes.
Give the guy a break. We should focus on other problems that were always there and would have been there and will be there whether or not Zardari was elected president. Unless we start thinking as a Nation and try to accommodate opposite political opinions without disrespecting opponents just for the sake of rhetoric we are not going to end up anywhere near the words stable, peaceful, disciplined and Honest.

Whats wrong with Zardari? excuse me how are you defending a person who says promises are not Quran or Hadees, if broken then what happens. you are asking whats wrong with Zardari, can u tell us whats right with Zardari. He is a mental case, as per his lawyer not us, and this has been submitted in written form in UK courts. How can u defend a person who at the time of death of Bb said " BB ki maut per sari zindagi soug main rahon ga" and look at the soug he showed with Sarah Palin. oh my God. and as per your logic that he is elected, now if our so called representtive elected a monkey, wil you consider him as president or prime minister.
@ topic, whats the use of issuance of so many coins, what BB has done for pakistan, that this govt is doing such sort of actions, they showed that they love Bb if they are true than why after one year why there is no investigation for her death. look i am talking about inverstigation, after one year they even havent filed the FIR of her death.

    Posted 3 years ago on 22 Dec 2008 22:11 #
  8. the only thing that has not and will not be issued with Benazirs name in pakistan is an FIR for her death other then that zardari is fully cashing in.
who killed her = the people who are gaining the most out of her death.

Lets suppose whatever you say is right. Name one politician in Pakistan who does not have these "dum challays". And yes if we want to be democratic we have to respect the democratic mandate and the people who have this mandate, it does not matter if he is a monkey, lunatic, playboy or prostitute. We should use our vote to change the system because we have seen enough blood and violence to think of any other options if we want to live as a free and proud nation in this world. There is no other way..this is the way and I agree its the hard way.

you are right if we want to be democratic we have to respect the democratic mandate. but be very honest, is this what we call democracy. is transfering of ownership of a political party within a family; known as democratic way. is becoming a chairperson of a party till death and after death via waseeat; known as democratic way. all the parties in our paksitan are families centered, revolving around the families and some family names. there is no democracy here in paksitan, the parties have no democracy in themselves how they can bring democracy to pakistan. doesnot democracy have some way of distinction between a donkey and a leader. ok elect an animal, as your leader, then what? does democracy like paksitan, will help us prosper. doesnt democracy include election among honest and some good people, like other parts of the world have. In us there is democracy, does american people spare Clinton of his personal matters, no. bcoz there is democracy in somehow better form than ours.
There is no democracy in pakistan as per my view. there is no other way right you are right, but for this at least we should know the difference between animal and a leader.

My dear brother...The democracy in US took its time to get to where it is now. It has to be given a chance to flourish and develop in the minds and souls of people. That is how it will be possible for us to resolve our issues. Look at India there also you have Rahul Gandhi heading Congress after Sonia gnadhi after Rajiv Gandhi after Indira Gandhi after Nehru...Look in US; G.Bush Jr. replacing G.Bush Sr. So whats wrong if it happens in Pakistan? Do we doubt the capabilities of Benazir Bhutto as a leader just becuase she was the daughter of Z.Bhutto? No she was an equally capable and intelligent leader as was her father. There is no wrong in it as long as people elect them. And if they are incapable; trust me they will be flushed out if we stick to the principles of democracy as a nation. At this time of grief and troubles we realy need to preserve our stature as a Nation that has resilience. We have to bear the fact that none of our leaders is honsest but still we should stick to the process of democracy so that we get the ones that are really capable of leading the country.

My dear Bichkand, bush junior was not appointed by bush sr thru his will a republican nominee. Yaar thori sey akal bhi istamaal ker liyya karo.
bush jr was elected thru primeries a nominee of republican for president. Sorry for being rude on your illogical & below average comparisons to save the **** of the dynasties of converted bhuttos & others thru wills.

I respect your opinion but I dont agree with it. Bush Jr. would not have been nominated as a Governor and later on as President had he not been Bush Jr.
Bhutto is a legacy and so far they have not disappointed this nation. They deserve it as for as they are ready to shed their blood for this country (you will say for Power). And as I said you have to understand that this might go unchecked for a decade or two but ultimately if they dont deliver they will disappear no matter how many times they change their names. And by the way nobody is bound to vote for a Bhutto. Use your vote to reject this decision.
Democracy is the cure my dear, democracy! We as a Nation have to give it a chance. We have to nourish it even if we do not necessarily agree with who is elected but we should respect their mandate.

The right word is nomination and its a part of democratic process.

    @Azeem1

The sentence that you quote from Ayaz Ameer speaks of the dismay, anger and resentment that Ayaz Amir has with Asif Zardari. Its an insult to millions of PPP supporters and voters all over the country. How can you expect a person like that to be objective in analyzing the problems of this country and come up with solutions. He has already spent two thirds of his energy in writing this one sentence to show his disapproval of the current leadership. He is already blind in seeing any good things that might be there. And you guys think he is doing a good thing by criticizing the government? Do you see any constructive thought behind this? If you do please let me know because as I see it , its just criticism for the sake of criticism.

As for as your second comment I will advise you to probably do a better literature review before you have that opinion. And if you are convinced with it I do not have any problems. Good luck with whatever dictators you and your kids might end up.

    Bichkand,

I agree your point of view and I support decent way of discourse and sharing info rather using third grade abusive and infelixible comments.Your positive attitude is rare on this group, here if we discuss and negate some one's opinion, there is higly likely to be bomborded all possible abusive and immoral attacks.

I agree you If we believe in essence of democracy then we should respect the manadte and let the govt work and complete tenure. No leader is angel in Pakistan but from certain section of society, only TARGET is Asif Ali zardari.

You can disagree on his politics but using third rate langauge and abusive behaviour brings NO good.Have patience, relax, respect others in order to be respected and let democracy time to flourish.

You are right Bickhand,Democracy is not machine to switch on and every thing gets OK,it is process and it akes time.

Wish we learn to respect each other's point of views in decent manners yet we may agree to disagree on many points and its best way for co-existance and welfare.

    Good work,keep it up bro!!

Bickhand you have said somewhere that the Bhuttos have not disapointed this nation. Can you give 5 instances where the Bhuttos have delivered something substantial and tangiable to this nation, except always trying to ride the sympathie vote. First it was ZA who litrally wept at the Lahore railawy station when he fell out with Ayub Khan,BB kept yelling how her father was assasinated (she was right there) by general zia and the courts. She would always come up with this tragedy whenever she wanted to raise the public sentiment and felt her popularity going down, and in equal terms she would morn the death of her brothers. Now it is Zardari who did the same thing. So in all it is nothing new.
But pray, tell us what have the PP delivered to the nation in real terms, except hollow slogans.
