Does PPP admit Zardari as convict as he already served jail time

(14 posts)
  1. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said yesterday and many other PPPeers have repeatedly mentioned before that President Zardari has already served jail time more than the charges he is accused of. Isn’t it naive or simply dumb to say such thing? Isn't it equivalent to admitting guilt on behalf of Zardari?

Is so, then Zardari is a convict. Does Pakistani Constitution or law allow a convict to run for a public office? Any discount lawyer on this forum? (Pro bono is preferred. I do not think it is allowed in the USA or UK?

Actually they are trying to win sympathy for zardari by calling attention to his 8 years of jail.

Azizi is right, it is not about more jail term for zardari, it is about being convicted or not which will lead to disqualification for holding public office.

  4. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

I don't care about PPP or Zardari in this matter.

What I care about is impartial, across the board justice, RAZOR SHARP accountability, which seems to have been served in one way and not served in another.

The way it was served was when judges said, NRO is against what Quran-o-Hadees teaches us, NRO is void, invalid, unconstitutional. illegal, unlawful, against the law of the land.

However, the way in which it was not served is, the court of law missed noting the culprits who propagated NRO in the first place i.e.,

    - Musharraf
    - Pak Army
    - foreign nations who played a part in this
    - Politicians
    - Bureaucrats
    - Businessmen
    - etc etc

Perhaps where justice wasn't served in the first part will come in the second part, in shape of cases that have re-opened as a result. So, ALL those who are envolved will automatically come in the limelight. If this is the way court of law is proceeding, then there's nothing to worry about. ALL people from military who are envolved in crimes will automatically get highlighted. It will happen automatically ALL in good time.

Otherwise, if this is a way for court of law to ignore people belonging to Pak Army who were part of NRO, then it is not impartial justice. I would strongly! criticize court of law in such a scenario for violating rule of law, for not being impartial.

Court of LAW also! forgot to investigate who did NRO, who was part of it, where did this event take place, was state money spent on this matter, if foreign powers were envolved who were they ? ALL this information SHOULD! have been noted in the court of law AND made public.

I am for impartial, across the board, non-discriminatory, FAST!, RAZOR SHARP accountability. I don't care who's head comes under the axe, be it a politician, generals, bureaucrats, businessmen, or any other person.

I want impartial, across the board JUSTICE

NRO was a fraud deal brokered by US/UK to preserve their regional interests.

Americans hijacked British part of pie through BB's assassination and now British part is striking back through judiciary...

    Haris Khan

Accountability is already being done by our courts. Will you please elaborate your 'razor sharp accountability'? Does it mean Zabeha of people and hanging their corpses with trees?

  8. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

    1) WHO is going to decide 'how much' jail term equals the crimes Zardari sb. has committed ?

    2) WHEN will it be decided ?

  12. People last week saw the operation of justice in all its majesty. The 17 judges of the Supreme Court declared unanimously that an accused person cannot be absolved of charges by an act of parliament. An ordinance promulgated by the president has the same force and effect as an act of parliament (Article 89(2)). President Musharraf, the product of a sham referendum, had conceived and promulgated the NRO to acquire legitimacy and another tenure and clean the slate for about 8,500 NAB-hit people, which included politicians, bureaucrats and party functionaries.

"...an accused person cannot be absolved of charges by an act of parliament"

Agreed. And an accused also person cannot be convicted by an act of angry mobs. Best course of action is to have quick hearing of NRO cases. If there is proof of guilt, then there is proof of guilt. But if there is no proof - and proof does not mean rumours, innuendos, political vengeance, or anti-Sindhi racism - then the person's name should be cleared and there should be no more complaining.
