While the Baluchi nationalists are acting like Iraqi's did against Saddam...telling americans that they will give the gawader port to them, stop the gas pipeline and fight against Talebans ...and Americans preparing another plan to seperate Baluchistan from Pakistan..

we are busy fighting amongst ourselves. Someone needs to file a treason case in SC against the baluchi nationalists and make politicians and army accountable... and possibly prepare a game plan incase anything erupts in Baluchistan.

There is a very famous saying that ‘a good dog deserves a good bone’ but quite often one comes across such dogs that aren’t good but they manage a milieu where one doesn’t have a choice other than taking them as good dogs, hence they ensure a good bone or bounty. The dogs, one comes across, in every walk of life. There was a ‘Holy Cows’ time once. Long gone those cows and now is the time of a ‘Bull’ and that bull is none other than Pakistani Media, currently ruining everything in the ‘China Shop’ and when the bull ruins a china shop, the dogs certainly cash their value and importance and insist upon a good piece of a bone to scare the bull away.

Media is an instrument of war and peace, which is being exercised by every nations to mould the situations for the purpose of acquiring desired results through perception management,t, assist in revisiting and defining foreign policy, breaking status quo, making/changing the opinion of masses and protecting national and international interests. In regard to Pakistani media, an agony to this aspect is that some of our top liner's electronic and print media's instruments are showing reckless attitude while dealing with the important and sensitive issues of Pakistan.
Taking the case of four dead detainees, regretfully, the media just needs an issue to vilify the armed and security forces of Pakistan. The annual death toll from terrorist attacks has risen from 164 in 2003 to 3318 in 2009, with over a total of 35,000 Pakistanis killed as of 2010 (5000 of which are law enforcement personnel while rests are the innocent civilians). Whereas, the direct and indirect economic costs of terrorism from 2000-2010 sum up to a total of $68 billion. Overlooking which, the media is still crying for the four dead detainees who were party to this hideous crime which costed thousands of innocent lives. It is about time that media men revisit their lost sense of patriotism and call a spade a spade.
The detainees were involved in brutalities on Hamza camp, Kamra Base and GHQ. According to the media reports detainees were taken away from Adayala Jail by their own masters, disguised as intelligence persons, to FATA. After relentless efforts they were again tracked and caught from FATA/KPK by the intelligence agencies. These detainees were not convicted by Anti-Terrorist Courts due to lack of evidences, as most of the witnesses were afraid to appear before the court. It is also mentionable here that heirs of detainees used to threaten the judges of the court and superintendent and staff of the jail. This is a common culture that the key witness is always given death threats by perpetrators of these terrorists. The question arising in the mind of every sensible person is that how who will give the justice to the heirs of over 50 innocent individuals who have been victims of ferocity of RA Bazar, Hamza Camp, GHQ, and Kamra Base episode. If the respectable petitioners, media's propagators and honorable apex Court's Judges' families would have suffered what they would have done? Would they have gone ahead with same zest? If media is united for one Wali Babar, just imagine how many "Wali Babars" have died in these suicide attacks. Who is to answer the widow of newly wed Mustansar? Who is to answer orphans of Ajmal? Who is to fill the gap of Saima's son? A question for all humans!

I feel quite despondent about the quality of threads on this forum. A blog site is hugely dependent on quality threads which encourage genuine discussion.

What is the magic formula for perfect thread?

What kind of language should be used in the title?

What kind of topics are fair game for threads?

What should a thread be based on?

What makes a thread a weed?

I will start by suggesting that a good thread must have a genuine question in the title.

The officials appointed by the health department are paid salaries and facilities from the public money. They are nothing more than mere burdens on the public. They move out regularly on official visits and just do the job of collecting bribes from one place to another.

The scam of fake medicines in Punjab is not any new story in our society. Just that this scam has come to surface.

I wonder if there is any govt. existent here to take care of the poor and helpless public.

Our country has reached very crucial conditions. Our economy is in shatters. Our industrial structure is collapsing due to shortage of electricity and gas. Lawlessness is totally out of control. Terrorism is at peak. The national institutions are headed towards catastrophic conditions . Similarly, there are countless problems of very serious nature which we are facing presently.

No threads on this forum addressing the serious national issues are seen. The things which are apparently and excessively seen on this forum are discussions on junk politicians.

Auditor General of Pakistan has exposed a bigger health scandal involving Punjab's hospital.

The inquiry conducted in the context of deaths due to wrong medication given by the Punjab Institute of Cardiology. The number of deaths due to PIC medicines has crossed an alarming 102 mark, as two more people lost lives on Thursday.

The AGP report says that Punjab procured medicines worth over Rs 130 million from a single company through a single tender. Not just that, hospitals tested medicines on patients in order to check their efficacy.

According to the report, untested medicines were given to patients in Dental Hospital and Jinnah Hospital Lahore, while Sheikh Zayed Hospital Multan administered untested eye drops and lenses to patients which caused them infection.

Dr Javed Akram, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore, who is heading the inquiry team dealing with the PIC scam, said that certain companies have monopolies while certain medicines are administered in Pakistan because lab tests are not available or conducted.

Dr Javed said he should have been given a copy of the AGP report for him to be able to given a proper judgment.

" Pakistan Needs Leaders Like Jinnah and Zia."
In view of present scenario, when Pakistan is suffering from violent conflict between Pakistan army and Islamic Fighters and both are cutting throats of each other and killing each other mercilessly, and no one is there to stop them from this bloody madeness, infact some ethnocentric parties and India are enjoying this bloody film continuously, and are trying to pour more fuel on this fire. In such condition it is the responsibility of Intellectuals of Pakistan to try to stop this blood shed and to analyze the past history of Pakistan and find out that why Pakistan was stable in the era of Quaid-e-Azam and General Zia, and was a most stable and strong country of the region in spite of all adversaries and enemity of British Empire, India and Soviet Union and why it has become so much unstable in the era of General Musharaf and Mr.Zardari in spite of support of World Super power USA,NATO and other nations..
Pakistan Needs Leader Like Quaid-e-Azam.
Quaid-e-Azam was a leader who united whole the populations of Muslims of subcontinent on one platform in spite of all their weaknesses due to illiteracy, ethnocentrism, regionalism, provincialism and conspiracies of Indian National Congress and British rulers, From each sentence of his speeches it is evident that he was the most caring and sincere leader for Muslims and for their interests. His speeches are full of words like Muslims, Musalamans and Islam, He very strongly proved that he is a well wisher of Muslims and will never compromise against the best interests of Muslims.
This was the reason that Muslims of subcontinent have thrown all their differences and were united under his leader ship without any reservation. For the cause of Muslims his family life was destroyed, his sister never married, her daughter was separated from him, For the cause of Muslims he lost his personnel home in Bombay, India, For the cause of Muslims he refused to accept the Premier ship of India and due to his hard work for the Muslims his health was destroyed but till his death he continued to work for welfare of his peoples. These were the characteristics of Quaid-e-Azam due to which even his enemies like him and have praise for him.
Pakistan Needs Leader Like General Zia-ul-Haq.
After separation of East Pakistan in 1971 a critical change occurred in the demography of Pakistan and ratio of Muslims Population increased from 85% to 98%.General Zia was the first leader who comprehended this change and used this phenomena for the strength and stability of Pakistan. Due to his apparent commitment with Islam and Muslims, he was able to rule the country like an Iron Man till his death. During his era Pakistan was the Island of piece in whole region, his devotion for Islam and Pakistan made him the most successful ruler of Pakistan, Although he was a military dictator he was having a very effective influence both socially and religiously on people of Pakistan, and people were having trust on him, due to his policies there was no anti state or separation activities except that of Al-Zulfiqar by brother of Mrs. Benazir Bhutto.
Afghan Jihad: Although General Zia was supporting Afghan Jihad against Soviet Union his relations with Soviet Union were surprisingly good, and Pakistan Steel Mill in Karachi was completed with the help of Soviet Union.
Collapse of Super Power Soviet Union:
Due to General Zia support for Afghan Jihad Soviet Union was broken into pieces of more than dozen countries and Pakistan was able to take the revenge of separation of East Pakistan from Soviet Union in which Soviet Union was nakedly involved .
Due to General Zia policies so many countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia were liberated from the claws of Soviet Union and both East and West Germany were reunited.
He refused to accept any pressure with reference to Nuclear Program from USA.
India:
In the era of General Zia ,India was highly frightened from stability and progress of Pakistan and lost all its credibility and diplomatic respect due to support for Soviet Union for invasion in Afghanistan and Indira Gandhi a foolish leader of India who was involved in aggression and terrorism for taking the advantage of foolish acts of General Yahya Khan in 1971 in East Pakistan , was totally failed in controlling the affairs of East Punjab due to her foolish policies and in fact lost her life in that crisis.
Care of Minorities:
In the era of General Zia, There was no problem of extremism and terrorism, he was real well wisher of minorities, Three million Afghan refugees were provided shelter in Pakistan, Refugees of Bahai minority of Iran were provided shelter in Pakistan, Great facilities were provided to Sikh Pilgrims for performing their religious rituals in Pakistan. Ethnic and religious Refugees from Burma were provided shelter in Pakistan. First time Pop visited Pakistan and great welcome was given to him by General Zia
General Zia always preached for harmony and unity in different sects and worked for use of religion for peace and development.
Laws against Criminals:
Strict laws were made against criminals like murderers, rapists and law breakers, which made and created a law abiding and respecting society in the country.
Great Performance in Sports:
Due to motivating and supporting policies on merit Pakistan became a super performer in the world of sports (Cricket, Hockey and Squash.)
Reasons for Success of Jinnah and Zia:
All success of Quaid-e-Azam and General Zia-ul-Haq were due to trust of Pakistani Nation on them due to their commitment with Islam, Muslims and Pakistan, in proving that commitment both were very proactive while present rulers are devoid of such characteristics, due to which today tribal people who have helped Pakistan in liberating 1/3 of Kashmir, and Mujahideen who helped Pakistan in Afghan Jihad are now attacking Pakistan security forces and national assets.
Due to Quaid-e-Azam commitment and support for Islam and Muslims,he was able to compete both British Empire a World Super of that time and India second largest country of the world. In the same manner General Zia was able to give the defeat to Soviet Union a world super power, just by sensing the psychology and religious culture of people of Pakistan.
While recent non-religious and ethnocentric rulers such as Musharaf and Zardari nor have any Ideology and neither have any courage to go in masses and are even unable to control the affairs of the Capital of Pakistan,Islamabad and the city of Rawalpindi where the General Head Quarter of Pakistan Army is located, because these rulers have chronically failed in proving their sincerity with Islam, Muslims and the people of Pakistan ,Which was proved on the day of Death of Benazir Bhutto, when workers and supporters of these non-religious leaders committed each and every crime against the innocent and peaceful citizens of Pakistan, both Musharaf who was in power at that time and Zardari who was the successor of Benazir chronically failed in protecting the assets and citizens from their violent supporters, therefore now how people of Pakistan can support and trust such selfish and deceptive leaders.
It is the responsibility of world leaders specially western nations to analyze the situation scientifically, because even for Western Nations Jinnah and Zia , were more beneficial while it is quite obvious that Musharaf and Zardari who are just using guns to gain their objective will just fail, and Musharaf already had failed and the situation is highly volatile at present, therefore it is the need of time to encourage those people to come forward who can solve the crisis of Afghanistan and Pakistan peacefully with Ideological Warfare and not with deceptive politics and Guns.
Ahsan is almost recklessly outspoken about P.P.P. leaders, even though they are his own political patrons. He speaks admiringly of Benazir Bhutto’s courage and steadfastness but also points out with disdain that she viewed herself as the P.P.P.’s “life chairperson.” And he does not bother to conceal his dim view of Zardari. In the car, as we drove back through the night to Lahore, I asked him how many of the allegations of corruption he believed were justified. “Most of them,” Ahsan said, after a moment’s reflection. “The type of expenses that she had and he has are not from sources of income that can be lawfully explained and accounted for.”

“Victimization of Judiciary to make Pakistan a Failed state”.

Only solution for fixing the problem of any failed state is to strengthen the accountability and Judicial system of that state, but unfortunately rudy rulers of Pakistan who even do not have basic ability to work with others are continuously and persistently victimizing the Accountability and Judiciary system of the state to make Pakistan a Failed state.

Damage to Judicial system By Dictator Pervez Musharaf:

This under graduate General has caused serious damage to Judicial system of Pakistan, He was not knowing that in history when a dictator throw away any judge on street due to fair practices of justice then that Judge becomes the greatest judge of history, In Karachi on 12-05-2007, so many civilians were killed just to damage and abuse the Judicial system of Pakistan.

Victimization of Judicial System of Pakistan by PPP Government:

Criminal and corrupted leaders of PPP, most of them are former prisoners of immoral crimes are continuously creating hurdles and problems for already crippled and damaged system of Justice in Pakistan, Due to failure of all state institutes and Organizations people of Pakistan are living painful lives but rulers are having no mercy on them, in fact they want to make judiciary a subordinate institute which should make decisions as per their desires and wishes, following are few examples of victimization of judiciary by present rulers
•	Use of Immunity against his crimes by President, which clearly indicates that he is not sincere and do not believe in equality of all in the eyes of law and thus showing an example to people, how to insult and undermine Law and Justice system of the state.
•	Interference in the appointment of judges without consulting Chief Justice, which clearly indicates that he wants to irritate the judiciary.
•	Creating deliberately crisis with Judiciary, which clearly indicates the he is not sincere and interested in the stability of state.
• Using issue of Seniority in appointment of Judges in Supreme court for confrontation with judiciary clearly indicates PPP desire to blackmail judges, where was the issue of seniority when PPP was selecting a child for the post of PPP Chairman, what a insult for grey and white haired PPP leaders sitting as subordinate in front of a College student Bilawal.
•	President has not consulted even not informed to Chief Justice before issuing notification for appointment of Judges in Supreme court, similarly as he had not consulted even not informed to President of PPP Mr. Ameen Faheem before appointing Prime Minister of Pakistan, are these the ethics of working in a civilized society.
Moreover with such menial mentality now Prime Minister is blackmailing the judiciary by giving threats that Judges could be removed from their seats, its means that by removing Judges these criminal politicians will do a great job as their spiritual leader Mr.Pervez Musharaf has done a great job by blackmailing and victimizing judiciary, But it is expected that Judges will face all such tactics with bravery and patience and will sacrifice their personnel interests, posts and facilities for the sake of justice and humanity like Imam Abu Haniefa, and Imam Abu Hanbal against these criminal and tyrant rulers.
So that a history could be made in which names of these judges will be written with golden words.

Pakistan seems to be becoming a brutal society. Physical violence seems to be escalating if TV reports are to be believed. There is brutality in our schools, villages, cities, streets, homes and even in places of worship.

Is brutality towards others becoming more common or is it the sensationalising effect of the media?

Should we worry as a nation that it is becoming very common to threaten others with violence and many cases carry it out too?

Is there an explanation for it?

What should we be doing to reduce the brutality in our society?

From watching life around me and from media coverage, it seems to me that a huge number of Pakistanis are living a life without dignity. People's basic human rights have been turned into huge favours that are granted by government officials, rich politicians or by charity organisations. People living on handouts and charity, without any prospect of a proper job. The sadness and hopelessness I see on some of the faces is enough to make one sleepless. Is a dignified life just a dream? Why do Pakistanis put up with the tyranny of office and the insult of 'sifarish' or 'nawazish' for matters that are the legal rights? Is it possible to make Pakistanis stop bowing their heads and demand what is rightfully theirs? What do you think?

“Advantages of Creation of Bangladesh to Pakistan”.

M.Akram Khan Niazi, Pakistan

Usually smaller Parts of a country having extraordinary resources tries to break away from the mainland to take the maximum advantage of their resources for their advantage, and to protect themselves from the drain of their resources to majority or dominant section of the country, but in case of Pakistan Majority Part on the basis of population, which was also having scare resources, separated from the other part, Generally, it is regarded as an unfortunate event for Pakistan by people of Pakistan, and no Pakistani tries to see other side of the coin of that event for analysis of the benefits achieved to them by this event

The reason of this is that all literature about that event has been written by those who were living in East Pakistan and they suffered personally by this event, due to which they always indicate their miseries and losses and forget to explain the advantages of that event to whole Pakistani Nation. Therefore, it is necessary to see the real results of this event. With the separation of East Pakistan, following advantages were achieved to Pakistan.

1. Economical

•Separation of Bangladesh was as much beneficial for Pakistan as separation of Pakistan from India.

•As the part of world in which East Pakistan was situated, was having limited resources, and many poor areas of subcontinent are situated in that part, such as Bihar , Assam ,West Bengal, Burma and Bhutan. Technically it was not in the interest of Pakistan, to keep itself attached with East Bengal(Historically one of the most poorest area of subcontinent) .In fact Pakistan after separation saved its future from economic burden of poverty ridden Bangladesh,

• Huge Population and scare resources of East Bengal were clear Indicators, that there will be no extraordinary progress in future in that province and no sensible person may think that it was valuable for Pakistan to keep itself attached with most poverty ridden part of this region.

•Being a part of East Pakistan, rulers were forcing to West Pakistani citizens to become a market of East Pakistan’s low quality Products, such as Tea, Pans and jute on artificial high prices on the name of Patriotism, while now such type high quality Products may be purchased from other countries on very low prices.

•After separation of Bangladesh, it was possible for Pakistan to make its economic policies without having any concern of interests of a far situated part.

•Pakistan Economic Managers relieved themselves from the Economic restrictions due to economic interest of East Bengal. That situation was as much harmful, as today Pakistan start to take care of the economic interest of Myanmar or West Bengal; it is certain that such type situation will be disastrous for Pakistan.

•With the analysis of economic situation of present day Pakistan and Bangladesh, shows that Pakistan GDP and Foreign currency reserves are double than that of Bangladesh and Electricity production is also 5 times more. It is obvious, that separation was much more in the interest of Pakistan, Because, the only solution of the Disparity between two parts, was to serve the Bangladesh with the resources of West Pakistan. Otherwise there was no other magic solution to address that disparity.

•It is still obvious that, there is still no charm in having trade links with countries of South Asia, because it is not in the economic interest of Pakistan, instead of that we should focus on rich and developed areas such as China, Middle East, Far East, Europe and USA.

2. Political Advantages.

•Due to extraordinary majority of Bengali Population, it was not possible for any province of West Pakistan to become equivalent to that majority any time in future, and it was certain that representatives of Provinces of West Pakistan will always remain in opposition in assemblies as per modern time democracy principles, this was really a frightening situation and the People of Pakistan were going to be ruled by any ethnocentric Bengali Leader or by any Bengali Military dictator for ever.

•Due to Bengali nationalism and ethnocentrism, on the basis of which People of Bangladesh were victimizing the Urdu Speaking Muslim refugees from India and that is still continue, and their Ethnic Cleansing with aborigines people of CHT, were clearly indicating that people of that area were not sincere and aware of the Ideology of Pakistan, in fact attachment of Pakistan with East Bengal was self deception and nothing else.

•Due to agitation style and different culture, the politicians of East Pakistan were always blaming Pakistan for their problems and exploitations, while people of Pakistan were worried about deteriorating condition of people of East Pakistan due to poverty and natural disasters, and they were too much fed up with that situation as they were seeing no end of all this, as this thing was also harming the Basic Ideology of Pakistan, and therefore to get rid of this situation and to avoid baseless allegations it was necessary to separate that area(East Bengal) from Pakistan, and this was the main reason that West Pakistani Military Personnel, even having capability for defending that part decided very easily and conveniently to end their any relation with that land on the basis of the facts that they were tired of all those messy affairs.

• Due to separation of East Pakistan, Pakistan saved itself and its ideology from baseless criticism of Bengalese Politicians, and now on real grounds they are blaming each other for their problems.
•With the separation of Bangladesh, Pakistan Islamic Ideology became more prominent with the introduction of Islamic laws and future scenario of Pakistan became much more firmed with the conversion of population ratio to 98 % Muslims, while with Bangladesh, presence of Huge Hindu minority was having adverse effects on the ideological progress of the country.

3. Security Advantages:

As East Pakistan was situated in the abdomen and inside the body of India and thousand miles away from West Pakistan, India was using this factor for blackmailing and pressurizing Pakistan from the beginning, In fact burden of huge population of East Bengal was loaded on West Pakistan to make Pakistan a crippled and failed state by Indian National Congress. India used that part as a button for keeping under pressure to Pakistan in 1947, in war of 1965 and again in 1970 with policy to occupy large chunk of land in East Pakistan. Due to 1000 miles distance between both parts and that also filled by enemy land, in such worst scenario even maintaining contacts between security forces and their mobility was in fact a difficult, expensive and life taking task, accompanied with wastage of huge resources, ultimately resulting in weakening of Defense forces and economy of the country. By separation of East Bengal, Pakistan was able to get rid of its weak point which was a most easy and favorite target of India. Due to that now Pakistan Defense is more strong and protected as compared to vulnerable and weak position before 1971.

4. Social Advantages:

•With the separation of Bengal flow of population from densely populated Bangladesh to parts of West Pakistan stopped, which was a good development for the culture and social set up of West Pakistan.

•Due to two national languages, Cultural evolution of the people of West Pakistan was stopped and their local languages were dying, with the separation of Bangladesh, that process was stopped.

•After separation of Bangladesh huge jobs opportunities were raised for people of different provinces of West Pakistan in both Federal and Provincial Governments. Due to elimination of share of people of Bengalese in civilian Jobs, which resulted in an increase in participation of local population in the affairs of country, by this their sense of depriving was minimized.

•People of Bengal are usually dark skinned, while people of West Pakistan were of Fair Skinned, due to continuous flow of Bengalese from East Bengal was creating racial discomfort and fears in the mind of local populations, that by this they will become minority in their own provinces, specially in the case when Federal Government was encouraging Bengalese to rehabilitate in West Pakistan, By separation of East Bengal this process of migration was also stopped.

This is the reason that after separation of East Pakistan, Mr. Mujibur Rehman was immediately released by President Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and he never expressed any regret about creation of Bangladesh.

Similarly once Prersident Zia-ul-Haq commented that freedom fighters of Bangladesh were in fact the freedom fighters of Pakistan, Now Bangladesh is a free country and Pakistan is also a free country.

It is crystal clear from all above mentioned facts that separation from Problematic East Bengal created new life and new freedom in Pakistan.

Judging from newspaper and TV reports, it is becoming evident that Pakistan's institutions have either become dysfunctional or are fast becoming so. A range of reasons are given for the malaise and there is a huge sense of hopelessness about it. One manifestation of institutional failure is the need for executive orders to fix injustices, criminal dereliction of duty, abuse of power and other acts of institutional incompetence. People seem to think that they can get little done without a sifarish or order from the highest possible authority. It has almost become routine to see, that after media coverage of acts of injustice or incompetence, the president, PM or various CMs and ministers have to give orders to fix the problem or make it appear to be fixed. This is, to my mind, a kind of 'firooniat.'

What do you think? Perhaps you know a good news story of a successful institution that is working properly that you would like to share.

Is there light at the end of this tunnel? How do we fix PIA, Railways, Police, WAPDA, Judiciary, Parliament (yes even Parliament) and many other institutions that are causing immense misery to ordinary Pakistanis. Lets hear some practical and realistic ideas about changing things around.

The responsibility is ours, it is our country.

Dec 16, 1971 darkest day in history of Pakistan
Updated 1 hour ago

1

LAHORE: December 16, 1971 or 'fall of Dhaka', is the darkest day in the history of Pakistan. It’s now 40 years since the eastern wing of the country became Bangladesh.

Analysts held those forces and conspirators responsible who had never accept the political and democratic right of the people.

They said that at the time of this tragic incident, Shaikh Mujeebur Rehman, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and General Yehya had major role in the politics of the country.

They further said that any single person or institution could not be held responsible for this tragic incident.

It is strange that even after losing half the country, no lessons have been learnt.

It was the 16th of December 1971, when the instrument of surrender was singed at Ramna Race Course Ground of Dhaka. Tears rolled down the eyes of Lt. Gen. Niazi after affixing signatures on the instrument of surrender.

The next day in the morning at Karachi, I found thousands of youngsters flooding on the streets. Most of them were crying with tears in their eyes and chanting slogans against Gen. Yahaya Khan. Their words of slogan were "mera romal low, Yahaya ko phansi do". Not only for the common Pakistanis, the event was intolerably painful, but the Muslims around the world took the Pakistan's defeat on their hearts. The common people in Saudi Arabia were sorrowful. The Indian Muslims were being ridiculed by the Hindus over Pakistan's defeat. The Grand Mufti of Palestine, Syed Amin Ul Hussaini could eat his meal for 3 consecutive days as a result of heavy shock. Shah Faisal was deeply grieved. Ghaddafi expressed deep sorrows over Pakistan's defeat. Pakistan's defeat was the sorrowful event for the whole Muslim world.

Such a heavy tragedy was forgotten in no time. No Politician or no general was subjected to any trial or punishment.

KHAN_Sahib on "Building Pakistan and How to Increase GDP!"

This Thread is in response to the JJ Khan’s thread of Quality of Pakistani products
http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/quality-of-pakistani-products

But as I want to discuss this in a broader spectrum, hence I have initiated this thread.
So How to make Pakistan Grow or in other words, how to increase Pakistan GDP?? I am not an economic expert but I would like to suggest few points and then ask all of you to contribute. Please stick to this discussion and don’t bring Party politics or religion in this thread. But before I go ahead and try to understand from all of you or to explain my understanding, I would like to emphasize on some other important points (which I will explain or discuss later)
Points to work on to make a country grow in both long term and short term:
1.	Good Governance …. i.e. Honest People as the head of state /departments and ministers who are efficient, knowledgeable of their work / ministry.
2.	Education
http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/education-standard
3.	Health
4.	Transport and roads
5.	Law and Order
6.	Free Judiciary
7.	Police Reforms
http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/police-reforms-needed
8.	Building of infrastructure to provide basic amenities to local population.
9.	Religion and its Implementation / Tolerance towards minorities
10.	Distribution of Income and Resources between Provinces
11.	Increasing the number of Provinces
http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/new-pakistan-reformschangessuggestions
12.	Anti-Corruption
http://www.jang.com.pk/jang/may2009-daily/10-05-2009/topst/main6.gif
13.	New Constitution
http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/is-our-pakistan-constitution-a-faulty-document-buggy-document
14.

So what is the definition or concept of GDP before we discuss the ways to increase this!
GDP:
The gross domestic product (GDP) or gross domestic income (GDI), a basic measure of a country's economic performance, is the market value of all final goods and services made within the borders of a nation in a year. [1] GDP can be defined in three ways, all of which are conceptually identical. First, it is equal to the total expenditures for all final goods and services produced within the country in a stipulated period of time (usually a 365-day year). Second, it is equal to the sum of the value added at every stage of production (the intermediate stages) by all the industries within a country, plus taxes less subsidies on products, in the period. Third, it is equal to the sum of the income generated by production in the country in the period—that is, compensation of employees, taxes on production and imports less subsidies, and gross operating surplus (or profits).[2] [3]
The most common approach to measuring and quantifying GDP is the expenditure method:
GDP = private consumption + gross investment + government spending + (exports − imports),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gross_domestic_product

So for a lay man like me,

GDP is Gross Domestic Product. This is the sum of all the goods and services produced in a country. There are really only 2 ways you can increase GDP. First, have more people working. If a farmer owns 90 acres of land, but he can only plant 40 acres by himself, then if he hires a helper, he should be able to plant 80 acres of land, he's just doubled the amount produced. If he hires a 2nd hand then they should be able to plant the full 90 acres, either by planting 40 acres, 40 acres, and 10 acres, or by each planting 30 acres. The 2nd helper didn't increase production as much as the 1st, but there was still a net increase. However, if the farmer hires additional helpers, there won't be any increase, because all of his land can be planted by only 3 people.

This leads into the 2nd way to increase GDP, have people work more efficiently. If the farmer was able to plant 40 acres, but only had his seed and a shovel, then you could increase his productivity by giving him a horse and a plow. Using the horse and plow the farmer might be able to plant all 90 acres by himself.

What does all of that mean on a macro scale?

It means that if you reduce interest rates, you can make access to money easier, making it more likely that more farmers will end up with plows.

If the value of our currency drops relative to other currencies, it means that we increase demand for our products, because if the farmer can only sell 40 acres worth of crops each year, there really isn't any point to increasing his productivity.

Increasing productivity also allows us to reduce prices, because with the horse and plow, 1 farmer can now do as much as he and 2 helpers could do before. With the money he saves not hiring helpers he can pay for the horse and plow, save a little something for himself, and still reduce the price of the crops he sells.

So how do the interest rates play a part in a short or long term here???

Short run: If interest rates fall then in the short run you MAY see an increase in GDP as companies take advantage of lower financing costs to engage in new business activities. Or if government ramps up spending you'll likely see a rise in GDP as well. Both of these factors will theoretically (at least from some schools of thought) be offset by lower economic activity in the future to "payoff" for these short term binges.

Long Run: If more people are working (say through population growth), then ceteris paribus gdp should probably increase. Or if the same numbers of people are working but they're more productive (I make 5 widgets instead of 2) then GDP will increase.

I will try to post further but I have posted the links to the topics we have already discussed earlier. Hope we all can contribute here.

Two things I notice in Pakistani society;

1. No one ever admits guilt or culpability for their wrongs.

2. Sorry seems to be the hardest word to say.

I am not sure if I am right about this but when I look around I see everyone being "right" and even when they are wrong, they still cannot say the magic word.

An ordinary example of this is that even the cold blooded murders of the Sialkot brothers (about a year and half ago) pleaded not guilty. I wonder, is this because we are complete cowards and lack all moral courage? Or is there a different reason for it? Why is "sorry" the hardest word to say for most, from a pauper to a president.

Is there a fix, slow or quick?

It appears to me that almost everyone in Pakistan is unhappy about the way things are. People are complaining about a range of things; inflation, power outages, corruption, lack of law and order, incompetent leaders, the war on terror and the list goes on and on...

I want to know who or what you think is responsible for our woes?

You might even be one of those who thinks that things are fine and people are just complaining mindlessly, I would still like your opinion.

I reckon we cannot do anything about ameliorating our lives in Pakistan unless we know what or who is causing the pain in the first place.

So lets have it.

Qadiyanis are insisting on calling themselves Muslims despite that the constitution of Pakistan declares them to be non-Muslims. Their secret organisations are spreading their false religion among the Pakistani youth by offering them bribes and other materialistic incentives. Wake up Muslims !

Let's see what the politicians will do to stop this violation of the constitution of Pakistan.

Qadiyanis will find it very hard to live in peace unless they let go their stubbornness and accept the preconditions to their security. Stop calling your self Muslim and stop preaching your false religion to the Muslims.

Hope people in this forum belong to various provinces. I have been to all provinces and have friends all across. My perception is that keeping ammunition (Licensed or un-licensed) is norm at various places. Based on my perception below is my distribution of families keep some sort of fire arms in Pakistan:
Sindh Rural 80%
Sindh Urban 30%
KPK Rural 95%

The purpose of this series of threads is to bring into light the rights and wrongs done by our politicians. Politicians must be encouraged and discouraged for their rights and wrongs respectively. Let us start this series of thread with Shariff Brothers.

Rights

Shariff Brothers' performance in matters of development works in Punjab was good in Zia's regime then later in their own. Lahore city was brought into a new beautiful shape.
Nawaz Shariff's first regime as the PM was very good. He rebuilt the confidence of the businessmen which was badly damaged by Bhutto's policies. Zia had failed to rebuild the confidence of businessmen, but Shariff did rebuild it. During his first regime, a lot of foreign investors began to take interest in the economy of Pakistan and it began to flourish. New banks and companies began to sprout in the market. Pakistan had come on a real path of progress. His yellow cab scheme was very good to provide source of income to jobless persons.

His first regime was toppled by the CIA with the help of their stooge 'Ghulam Ishaq khan'.

Wrongs

The second regime of Nawaz Shariff was very disappointing. Nothing in his second regime was similar to that of his first regime. He could not tackle the situation which grew up after the nuclear blasts. Nuclear blasts were indispensable after India's threatening nuclear blasts. Pakistani government had no option other than making blasts.
Another big failure of his second regime was Kargil event. He failed to deliver goods even in the case of Kargil. On the military front, Pakistan was successful, but on the diplomatic front, Nawaz failed to tackle the situation. Pakistan had a heavy set back because of Nawaz's diplomatic failure. His last blunder was to make an attempt to replace the general of the army by a Lt. Gen. of the Engineering Core. His last blunder turned up to be the last nail in the coffin of his second regime.

While discussing political junkies on the forum, we must pay attention to the national problems which are leading us to utter collapse.

* Economy is in total ruins
* Law & Order is non-existent
* Institutions like Railways, PIA, Steel Mills are headed
closures or disasters
* Industrial structure is being heavily damaged by
energy shortages, lawlessness and unbearable taxation
* International Trade is in heavy deficits
* Basic Water supply resources are being blocked by India

In view of the above issues, are we not headed towards an utter collapse? Let do something collectively before it will be too late.

Pakistan’s population has continued to grow at break-neck speed. This has put immense pressure on the resources Pakistan has or can generate. Some would argue that every birth produces a consumer and person who will grow up and pay our pension when we are old. Is the high birth-rate a blessing or is it a burden? Should we moderate our population growth or should we allow things to carry on the way they are? What are your views? Is it possible for a country like Pakistan to moderate its population growth?

P.M. has released a statement that PML-N is scared of Imran Khan. The statement of the P.M. is a reflection of truth that PML-N is scared of Imran Khan.

Although, Imran's party PTI is not yet a party. It is more like a one man show, but the poor performance of PML-N has created an inner sense of guilt in the minds of the members of PML-N and resentment in the minds of their voters. Their voters are looking for some choice to elect some other party. Despite being no organized political party, the disappointed voters of PML-N are considering Imran as a potential political element to solve their problems.

Imran Khan can take an advantage of public resentment of the public of Punjab by organizing his party properly.
