It is one of the most stupid programs in recent times. Equally stupid and vying for number one position is Sasti Roti by Punjab Government.

Check the website:
http://www.bisp.gov.pk/

"The allocation for the current fiscal year is Rs. 70 billion to provide cash assistance to 5 million families which constitutes almost 15% of the entire population. Thus the program aims at covering almost 40% of the population below the poverty line."

70 billion.
1 - No body from poor public can check if it reached the people or not.
2 - 70 Billion can be used to create some employment opportunities (new medium businesses)
3 - What monthly payment of 1000 to 5000 to families can do to alleviate poverty?
4 - In no way this is sustainable for poor! They would REMAIN dependent on this bheek.

I dont know when our leaders would get some sense and do something REALLY good!!!

Pakistan slipped deeper in turmoil since Musharraf handed over reins of power to Kiyani. Benazir had asked for Kiyani and Musharraf did what was being asked. Later this paved way for Zardari and his corrupt cronies to power, they still enjoy with Kiyani covertly moving strings in support to Zardari and his corrupt mafia. Kiyani should end his briefing-debriefing sessions from abroad and act like a true patriot, a soldier who cares for Pakistan and its integrity. If he does, much of hardship imposed on public by Zardari and his gang will certainly come to an end:

Recent events in and around Pakistan have widened the fissures within a fragmenting Pakistani society. Sensationalism combined with opaqueness in policy has contributed to speculation and rumors mill tearing at the seams. If tweets, blogs and views of an educated liberal class of Pakistanis are a measure, the events are certainly taking Pakistan to the gallows with testimonies from our very own.

Nothing more highlights the absence of an informed internal debate on the calculus of the National Power/National Interests or the pressing issues of national well being and nationism. At the governmental level, nothing positive and redeeming is happening. The war cabinet has never been commissioned. Defense Committee of Cabinet is ineffective and marred by divisions. The leadership environment in crises is nonexistent. Ruing such initiatives, I had written in ‘Rising Pakistan: A New Narrative’ that the media would soon relish an opportunity of sensationalism never witnessed before. It happened earlier than I expected.

As regards Kakul, it is yet to be ascertained if there was complicity from within. As a combater, it is impossible for me to believe that Strategic Military Surprise had the nation confused for 24 hours. Refueling arrangements at Kala Dhaka lend credence to my complicity theory.

The attack on Mehran Base was a bombshell with insufficient explanations. How was it possible that the terrorists achieved surprise? Did the local security in its rush cut off the route of withdrawal and trapped some militants while many others firing rockets into the aircrafts managed to escape undetected? Have the crossing points on the stream used by the militants been examined for any signs leading to a rendezvous? In addition, have all the empties of rockets fired at aircrafts been collected? Why were the terrorists allowed to pin down security forces for 17 hours and why ground combat troops held back? Where was the Joint Staff Headquarters with all its coordination? Unless these facts are known, the nation will continue to speculate and divide within.

The murder of Syed Saleem Shahzad, the one-man team of investigative journalism needs to be investigated to meet the ends of justice and punish those who killed him most brutally. The incidence has provided the much needed impetus to the propaganda and media tirades of a certain segment who see the military and intelligence establishments of Pakistan as enemies and use the propaganda unleashed by the western media against its own establishment as gun powder.

Lack of ‘need to know transparency’ at the ends of the armed forces and intelligence are providing space to both well meaning and ulterior motivated criticism of the armed forces. Why is it that suddenly the western media, White House critics, Pentagon, segments of political parties and some Pakistani media also join the same chorus?

A national army cannot remain divorced from the events that take place around it. Inasmuch as the nation, the events narrated above must have definitely dented military morale crucial for a battlefield. They realize that unlike Swat, the entire nation is not behind them. Amidst this mist of events, half-truths, rhetoric and disinformation, they need a cause worth fighting for. In the backdrop of over 7000 casualties, many would be questioning if it were ever worth it and to what purpose. This is a most unsuitable environment to throw an army into large-scale counter insurgency operations when other pre requisites emanating from the civil sector are totally missing. In any army, soldiers fight through motivation and that is just what the army needs.

Barawal Valley in Dir has been under constant conventional attacks launched from Kunar Afghanistan in the past few days. Earlier too, this sector had witnessed large-scale organized attacks. Why is this pressure being brought on the Northern Flank of Mohmand Agency again facing Kunar? What have the NATO Forces and Afghan Military done so far to stop such incursions and who keeps supplying these insurgents with reinforcements and logistics. It is no coincidence, that when the security forces carried out search and clearing operations in the past, the NATO Forces failed to provide the much needed anvil. The militants were able to escape from one side and enter from another. The same is also true of the South Waziristan Operations followed by the usual accusations from CENTCOM that Pakistani security forces lack the holding capacities in areas that they secure. Will future operations in FATA and PATA witness the same levels of coordination? If they do, it means nothing.

Both USA and the Pentagon need to realize that in the military strategy the credibility of intent, clarity in mission and professionalism in execution cannot be over ruled by intelligence intrigues. All operations executed by Pakistan to first set its own house in order are to be supported through intelligence and the military anvil.

It appears that none of the Politicians in Pakistan realizes that the country is fighting a war against its own attrition. Grateful to an NRO that puts each one of them in power in some capacity, they are content to play their familiar politics and wait for the time when the security apparatus is decimated enough to give them absolute power.

The President and the Prime Minister neither seem to share the security concerns of the establishment nor willing to visit the embattled field formations. The economic and other policies being implemented do not indicate that Pakistan is passing through its worse crises, nor enough to arrest the momentum of constant attrition. With the economy effectively rolled back, factionalism proliferating, growing urban terrorism and the defense establishment constantly embarrassed, the scene will inevitably shift to the heartland Punjab and expanses of simmering Balochistan.

To stop this we all have to become Pakistan’s Pakistanis.
It appears that the military leadership too has run out of ideas, primarily because its security narrative based on a two front war was deficient in addressing the issues arising out of militancy and US cooperation. The narrative lacked vital sociological inputs for a long drawn conflict.

The assumptions that formed the important plank of the counter insurgency strategy were faulty. Having ceded initiative early on, it was never in a position to seize initiative crucial to a conflict. Its tactical military successes were never backed by viable and credible socio-political initiatives. In a faulty socio-politico-military calculus, there never was that civil backup to take over from where the military left.

Given that, the same dispensations are likely to continue, so will the attrition. Much will depend on how USA treats Pakistan and how Pakistan’s leaders react.

On its part, Pakistan must insist that it first needs to put its own house in order by defeating the militants within. This will take the form of selective operations based on accurate intelligence. The cost will be urban terrorism and heavy loss of life and infrastructure. At the same time, it must prevail upon Afghan groups amenable to it to negotiate peace. However, this part can only be ensured if the entire nation is united under a new national narrative.

http://sharafs.wordpress.com/2011/06/06/of-narrative-strands-and-strings/

It is very important to think of future of Pakistan Peoples Party which is on stake now.
Peoples party is still biggest party of Pakistan and its being in tact is very necessary because it is the biggest binding chain for Pakistan but present ruling elite has changed it to a party like a PML after Qauid e Azam.
This Party was founded by great Qauid e awam Fakhr e Asia Shaheed Zulfkar Ali Bhutto who sacrificed his life for the nation.
After him his brave daughter Shaheed Benazir Bhutto struggled a lot but she was too assassinated and pro establishment figures took control of this great institution.
I welcome comments of all.

(The b#m never disappoints with his lofty unfounded claims(lies)... if he were born few centuries back he would have been a court jester)

RAWALPINDI: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik Friday said that all the culprits involved in the killing of former premier Benazir Bhutto have been arrested.

Talking to media here in Gujar Khan tehsil after inaugurating the passport office on Friday, Malik said that he knew how BB was killed and who the killers were, adding that he also knew which vehicles were used by the killers to reach the place of murder and how they managed to escape.

He said that government had fulfilled its promise of bringing BB's killers to the book.

Interior minister said that the report in this regard would be presented before the PPP's Central Executive Committee (CEC) first and then it would be made public.

It is an important Question for Rahman Malik.
Since you are looking over security for the Pakistan Peoples Party.
The day of arrival of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan October 18,2007 about more than one hundred workers of PPP lost their lives.
On December 27, 2007 Shaheed B.B. and many workers lost their lives.
Governor Punjab Salman Taseer lost his life in Islamabad lost his life in Islamabad.
Now Shahbaz Bhatti a federal minister lost his life in area Islamabad which is directly under your administration.
PPP has a long history of sacrifices of lives which started from Sangarh in an attack on Shaheed Zulfqar Ali Bhutto.
Murtaza Bhutto was also assasinated when you was D.G. FIA.
How this all happening ?

Pervez Musharraf boasted himself to be a tough commando who would not bend and change his decisions under pressure. He may have been right; it may not be easy to pressure him to take decisions but it now seems that it was not difficult to make him change his mind. You only needed right arguments to convince him; a respectful letter, a bottle of premium whisky and a pack of Havana cigars are convincing enough arguments to melt the “man of steel”.

The matter is just clear now.
Major breakthrough in BB murder case inquiry
EPA

RAWALPINDI: The Benazir Bhutto assassination case being probed afresh has found a major breakthrough, with a top police official turning approver.

Punjab Police SP Ashfaq Anwar, who was assigned escort duty with 120 police commandos for the slain PPP leader at the venue of her public meeting at Liaquatbagh, has disclosed that the then CCPO Saud Aziz forcibly removed him from the ex-premier’s security.

Recording his four-page confessional statement in Islamabad magistrate Farhat Nadeem’s court, he said he was responsible for escorting Benazir back to Islamabad from the meeting’s venue with 120 police commandos. He had been assigned this task in writing and reached Liaquatbagh on time at (December 27, 2007).

Upon Benazir’s arrival, CPO Saud Aziz ordered him to leave the place but he declined. The CPO again phoned to say that a rally had been fired upon in Islamabad’s locality called Koral before Nawaz Sharif’s arrival, but he again refused to obey the order, saying Islamabad did not come under his jurisdiction.

Upon his third refusal, the CPO said: “I order you to leave Liaqautbagh’s venue and move to Islamabad’s Expressway.” He said he left the place with commandos and reached Expressway where police force under the command of Islamabad Police SP Tahir Ayub was already present.

When he phoned his police boss to ask if he should move back to Liaquatbagh since they were no more required in Islamabad, Saud Aziz said “no” and told him to stay put till further orders.

Likewise, his contingent was subsequently moved to Koral Chowk and Sadiqabad before being told to go home.

He told a joint investigation team that had he been allowed to stay at the public meeting venue, the tragedy might have been averted. Two police officers SSP Tahir Ayub and Dr Moeen attested to the statement.

According to the joint investigation challan, the gun-and-bomb attack was launched on the orders of Baitullah Mehsud by Saeed alias Bilal. Five accused have been nominated in the case while five others are dead. A fresh challan is being presented in the anti-terrorism court No 1 of judge Akram Awan on Saturday (today).

I was surprised to see the outcome of this report!! I was of the opinion that report would give:

1 - The killer's name,

2 - Motive behind the murder

3 - How the murder was planned and executed.

But no names, nothing clear!

a - How much Pakistan paid for this investigation?

b - Is this outcome really acceptable?

c - Was this report only for exoneration of Zardari and his family?

Patriot on "Did Benazir die for Democracy?"

The word ‘Democracy’ is the most misused word by our political elite that it has lost its true meaning for our masses in Pakistan. This article that I like to share with members here, explains it nicely.

DID BENAZIR DIE FOR DEMOCRACY?
Or is she being exalted in death to sanitize her successors who have leapfrogged into power?

South Asians are sentimental people. Their romanticism and devotion to revered historical icons and deities over several thousand years has shaped their political psyche of nurturing personality cults. To this add their ignorance about modern day political realities due to pervasive illiteracy and you will understand the reason behind the meteoric rise to power of charismatic albeit controversial leaders in recent history.

And when after their contentious stints with power these political heroes fell, mostly violently, their warts were removed to transform into martyrs, clearing the way for their dynasties to succeed them - a throwback of the ancient monarchical system. In India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh, dynastic rule created turmoil from incompetence and misuse of power, stymied the development of political institutions and weakened nascent democracies. Such political heirs generally failed because they had leapfrogged into power without having evolved through political experience.

Pakistan saw Bhutto dynasty emerge after the judicial murder of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1979, a very popular leader and founder of Pakistan People’s Party, at the hands of General Ziaul Haq who had overthrown him in a coup in 1977. Benazir, the scion of Bhutto’s political dynasty, was one such heir who lived and died a controversial figure.

An insecure and inexperienced young woman at the time, Benazir was named political successor by her father from his death cell. From a novice, who struggled along with her widowed mother to run Bhutto’s political legacy, she matured into an astute politician, aggressive and enlightened, riding the sympathy wave created by her father’s tragic death and the ‘Bhutto’ name she inherited. The name continues to be revered by the poor to this day, for Bhutto had given them hope.

It goes to her credit that she fought her way though a wicked and hostile male-dominated world of Pakistani politics to carve a place for herself and go on to become the first woman prime minister. The harsh circumstances she endured en-route to power and the traits she inherited from her father shaped her psyche. She lost the gentle womanly touch in her personality, becoming manipulative and callous. Her actions were to prove later that she was no “champion of democracy” as some of her supporters and successors have called her. This is wholly a misstatement.

Benazir was inspired and tutored by her father. No wonder then that in many ways she was like him – he, who was a brilliant, charismatic, shrewd, ambitious, self centered and an autocratic politician with visceral hatred for dissent. To gain popular support he championed the cause of socialism and the poor when ironically he was a feudal to the core by birth and by temperament. Shortly after climbing to power, he discarded his socialistic garb, dumped his capable compatriots who could disagree with him and surrounded himself with political pygmies who danced to his tune. To him ruthlessness was an instrument of power. Machiavellian in mindset, he allowed Pakistan to dismember in 1971 because in that lay the promise of the power he sought. He and Benazir were different in one way though – he did not show that greed for money.

Despite her claim that she stood for the poor, Benazir remained an elitist and never personally identified herself with them. She was no Gandhi. She went to live in Cannes after her father’s death – an expensive resort city of French Riviera. And when came time to contest her first election, she chose the slums of Lyari (Karachi) as her constituency. How ironic: someone who lived in one of the richest places of Europe came to represent the poorest of the poor in Pakistan? But Lyari has remained the poorest slum in Karachi and a hub of crime, despite her two stints as prime minister.

The home of Benazir and Zardari in Surrey, 70 miles south of London. She also had a home in Dubai and lived for periods in Cannes on the French Riviera.

Soon after ascending to power, Benazir mastered the art of manipulation and deception. She tolerated democracy because it was the only means by which she could get into power. How she ran her party was another matter, which she ruled as an autocrat. By getting herself appointed as party ‘chairperson for life’ – she rooted out any dissent and challenge to her authority.

Benazir was prime minister twice and both her governments were dismissed prematurely on charges of corruption and bad governance. Not only were her administrations generally marked by mismanagement, corruption, nepotism and social injustice, but she nominated her spouse, Asif Ali Zardari (now president) as minister in her cabinets twice and gave him a free hand to indulge in unfettered corruption that earned him the name of Mr. 10%. As a result, the couple came to be rated the second richest family in Pakistan.

Her human rights record was dismal too. She was criticized by Amnesty International and other Human Rights groups for death squads, abductions, torture and deaths of political detainees in police custody. Political opponents were hounded, harassed and jailed. Her own younger brother Murtaza Bhutto was murdered by the police in Karachi during her watch as prime minister. Murtaza’s widow claimed that Zardari was behind the murder but after a trial he was acquitted by the court. Murtaza, after returning to Pakistan from exile, had demanded party leadership and his share of the family fortune from Benazir.

After her second fall from power, without clearing her name from the charges of corruption and misuse of power, the leader of ‘Pakistan Peoples Party’ sneaked out of the country, abandoning ‘Pakistan’, her ‘People’ and her ‘Party’. The interests of the people and democracy did not matter.

An absconder from law, she termed her absence as ‘self exile’. In this ‘self exile’ Benazir continued to maintain her stranglehold over the party, knowing that emergence of alternate leadership would mean her political demise. It is widely known that after 2002 elections she refused to let her party’s senior vice chairman and an old loyalist accept General Musharraf’s offer to form federal government, sans Benazir. Instead, she allowed the opportunity to go to her opponents as she feared she would lose her ability to bargain her return to Pakistan with the Army. So much for her respect for democracy within her party!

Power is addictive. Benazir could not live without it. She knew that she was a persona non grata for the Army and hence any deal on her own was not possible.

A creature of insatiable ambition, she figured out that her safest bet was to ride back on the shoulders of the Americans who were looking for a credible and democratically electable partner willing to carry forward their agenda of ‘war on terror’. Aware that the Neocons were unhappy with General Musharraf for dragging his feet in committing hara-kiri by heeding their call to ‘do more’ against the Taliban, this was a perfect moment to sell her services. She had no qualms about bartering away Pakistan’s interests and partnering with those she had at one stage publicly accused of her father’s ‘murder’. It was now time to let bygones be bygones and seek their imperial shelter and support to gain power.

Benazir used her charm in the Western capitals to cultivate the political elite and the media, presenting herself as an astute, popular politician, a thoroughbred Western educated democrat and a proponent of human rights, struggling to restore democracy. For the Americans, she built her image as a brave Muslim woman, secular and liberal, willing to take on Muslim Jihadists.

The Americans saw in her a person who could succeed where Musharraf had failed – to provide a politically popular civilian face to a pro-American military government. They loved her theme song: “without her, democracy in Pakistan would be a lost cause” and cut a deal with her. In exchange for implementing the Neocon agenda she would assume power for the third time.

"Washington is behind me. I can't lose this opportunity. I have been waiting for it for nine years. We need to get Pakistan democratic again. I am needed here. It is now or never."

- Benazir Bhutto

A politically damaged and vulnerable Musharraf capitulated under American pressure and accepted a power sharing arrangement, absolving her of all corruption charges through an infamous US brokered legislation called ‘National Reconciliation Ordinance’ that washed off her and her spouse’s sins. She returned to the chants of “long live Benazir” by her constituents who were unaware that neither they, nor the country, nor democracy figured in the deals she had made in Washington. Insatiable urge for power did.

But this time around, power was not going to be hers. She died chasing power. She was killed by an assassin while campaigning for the elections on December 27, 2007. Her death has remained a mystery. Some allege that Al Qaeda or other extremist groups were behind it. But the more popular belief is that she paid the price for having reneged on her deal with Washington.

The tragedy spurred intense emotional response among her followers that was used by her widower Asif Zardari to position himself for leadership of her party. After her second fall from power Benazir had kept him away from politics under party pressure for having become an embarrassment and for bringing the party into disrepute. But this was his opportunity to catapult himself into the presidency that was later vacated by General Musharraf.

The party Benazir inherited from her father was treated as family heirloom upon her death. Like a scene from a Shakespearean play, her widowers pulled out and waved ‘her will’, scribbled on a piece of paper and questionable at best, before the party’s executive council whose members were too stunned to challenge it and he usurped the party. Most ludicrously, her teenage son hastened to suffix his name with ‘Bhutto’ to secure Pakistan’s throne in the future.

To sanitize their image, her political successors are now systematically creating her larger than life image and call her death ‘martyrdom’. They have coined slogans such as “Benazir died for restoration of democracy”. Had it not been un-Islamic, they might have gone as far as granting her sainthood. Even the American government took the unusual step of posthumously branding her a ‘champion of democracy’ through an advertisement in local newspapers on her first anniversary.

“The obituaries painting her [Benazir Bhutto] as dying to save democracy distort history”, said William Dalrymple (author of "The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi, 1857") in New York Times, January 4, 2008.

Those who extol her ‘democratic’ virtues do not make a convincing case. Her political record simply negates their claim. She neither served democracy nor human rights in her life or in her death. In fact, she had a disdain for both.

Islamabad airport named after Benazir Bhutto

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has directed that the Islamabad International Airport be called as Benazir Bhutto International Airport and the official sign to that effect be installed before August 14, 2008.

“From now onwards all flights to and from Islamabad International Airport will be announced as flights to and from Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad,” it was officially announced here on Monday.

http://www.thenews.com.pk/updates.asp?id=51830

** What a shame. The Islamabad airport is being named after arguably the most corrupt prime minister in our history. What did Benazir do for Pakistan except fill her Swiss accounts? And when she was assassinated, it was while she was campaigning to come back into power after a power sharing deal brokered by the US; I am sorry but that doesnt exactly make her a "Shaheed". If she really did have a contribution, then it would be more appropriate that someone other than her own party acknowledged it and named it after her. Also, I should tell you that a road in Pindi, and, something else too I cant remember, were also named after her recently.

I just hope the new Islamabad airport, which is going due for complettion in 2 years time, is not named after her. Who knows, maybe that will be named Nawaz Sharif International...

Pakistan set to issue Bhutto coin

Pakistan is to issue a commemorative coin to mark the first anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The State Bank of Pakistan will issue about 300,000 special 10-rupee (16 US cents) coins.

The coin will read in Urdu, "Daughter of the East, Benazir Bhutto".

Ms Bhutto was killed in a suicide bomb and gun attack in Rawalpindi on 27 December last year after an election rally for her Pakistan People's Party.

The coin will be issued on 27 December, the bank announced.

Ms Bhutto has already had Islamabad's international airport named after her, along with a hospital in Rawalpindi and a key road.

Her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, became co-chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, which won February's elections. He took over as Pakistan's president in September.

Monday, October 13, 2008
Karachi

The design for a monument to be erected in the memory of the victims who died in the October 18 bomb blasts at the welcome rally of the late Benazir Bhutto last year has been approved by Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah. The CM will inaugurate the construction of the monument at Karsaz on Saturday.

Confirming this, official sources said that many designs were presented to the CM, of which he approved one. The monument will be a 54-foot high “arrow”, the PPP election symbol, and will be built on the green belt on the site of the blasts in which more than 150 people were killed and hundreds injured during the welcome rally of Benazir Bhutto.

The monument’s height of 54 feet has symbolic value, with Benazir being 54 years old at the time of the incident.

The monument will be made of concrete, and the PPP has decided that big portraits of the late Benazir would also be displayed at the site.

The decision to construct the monument was taken when the PPP came to power and different designers had been working on this project. The party decided to unveil this monument on the one-year anniversary of the incident.

Pakistan people's party is the only genuine national political party which has strong support in every part of country including Kashmir. The exclusiveness of this party is in its dedicated worker, grass root level organization, and charismatic intelligent leadership.

Although most of us are still waiting for the fulfillment of the promises made to them by the current government, but still the democracy (won yet again by the people of Pakistan) has already brought some (not even near to enough) positive changes to the country.

We should not forget that the government inherited serious challenges (law and order, liquidity crunch, food and energy crisis etc) on hundreds of different fronts, and expecting overnight changes were unrealistic. However, there were many steps which could have been taken by the government (some of which are taken)to immediately relief the poor.

SHORTCOMINGS (SO FAR) OF PPP LED GOVERNMENT

1. Murree Declaration

The probably biggest blow to the credibility of PPP government which even shattered the hardcore PPP supporter is the backtrack of current PPP leadership from Murree declaration. If this issue is not compensated appropriately, it will haunt the PPP government in future.

2. Image projection and Media consultancy.

The mainstream media has always targetted PPP and its the only party facing medai trial since its inception (Kaffir, security risk, power hungry etc are some of the names affiliated with PPP). It is very surprising that when PPP was attacked heavily in the media by the charges of "Deal with dictator" and "NRO", and her rivals such as PMLN and APDM were apparently on higher moral ground, they won the 4th (out of 10) election and eventually led the nation into peaceful and smooth transition of democracy. However, no one can deny that PPP government has been unable to deal effectively in the media and needs to work alot on this aspect.

3. Lack of efficient governance

Compunded with lack of effective media counterattack, the inefficiency of government in controlling the floor smuggling, control over the load shedding and mismanagement in law and order has been damaging the credibility of government and causing frustration and disappointment in the people.

4. Marginalizing the genuine PPP leadership

For some reasons the current PPP leadership has preferred non-elected members like Rehman Malik, Farook Naik and Hussain Haqqani over Aitzaz Ahsan, Raza Rabbani, and Farhatullah Baber etc. Though this is prorogative of PPP only but in the game of perception, this step is not welcomed by the general public.

ACHIEVEMENTS (SO FAR) OF PPP-LED GOVERNMENT

1- Support price of Wheat from 650 to 950 Rs.

In order to deal the on going food crisis, the government for the first time at least in last decade has announced the radical increase in the supoprt price before the corp is hatched in the fields.

2- Benazir Income Support Program

The government has started Benazir Income Support Program to help 4 million poor families throughout the country.

http://www.app.com.pk/en_/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=55801&Itemid=2

3- Benazir Youth Program

Program to hire about 100,000 youth after getting free technical education from the government.

http://www.sindh.gov.pk/BBSYDP.htm

4- Sovereignity of Parliament

The government has tried to reinforce the sovereignity of parliament by taking following steps:

a- For the first time the military budget was discussed in the parliament.
b- President addressed the parliament after long time in which the president promised to withdraw his powers back to parliament.
c- In-camera session on War on terror.
d- For the first time in the parliamentary history of Pakistan, the chairman of accounts committee is made from Opposition, which will certainly help curbing the problem of corruption at government level.

5- Balochistan Policy

One of the notable achievements of this government is the pacification of insurgency in Balochistan and InshALLAH recent developments such as relasing Sardar Akhtar mengal and other baloch leaders, withdrawing politically motivated cases of baloch leaders, and requesting pardon to the people of Balochistan will help bridge the wide gaps between Balochistan and rest of country.

6- Mega Housing Projects

About 10,00000 houses will be built by this government and this project has already been started to accommodate low grade goverenment officers and poor people of Pakistan.

http://pk.chineseembassy.org/eng/zbgx/t514601.htm

There are some other mega and mini projects such as Thar coal project, Iran-Pakistan pipeline, Keti-Bandar port and some short term dams are promised by the government, but since they are not yet started in implementation phase so not discussed here.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

It has been more than 9 hours since the twice elected form prime minister of Pakistan, and, one of the three biggest political figures in Pakistan was brutally murdered.

I was highly criticial of Benazir Bhutto and her father, and, their policies, but, after what happened today, I have forgotten all about her negativities and only the positives are ringing in my mind. Every passing second is a reminder to all that she offered to the nation, all that she contributed and all that she could contribute. Today I am reminded of the courageous woman who rose to the top in a male dominated society. Today I am reminded of the first woman leader of a Muslim country. Today I am reminded of the reformer who went against the grain. Today I am reminded of the brave woman who went against the odds. Today I am reminded of the brave young woman who saw her father put to the gallows but never gave up. Today I am reminded of the brave woman who saw her brothers assassinated but did not give up. Today I am reminded of the brave woman who lost her entire family in this dirty political game but did not give up. Today I am reminded of the brave woman who fought for democracy and against tyrannical rule. Today I am reminded of the brave woman who left her family and her life of comfort and came to fight for our country. Today I am reminded of the brave woman who did not give in to the fear of death. And tomorrow I will remember the brave woman who played with her life for our country, for you and me, for our children, for our future, and paid the ultimate price, and, paid with her life. Bhutto tujhe salam.

A towering figure for 3 decades in this nations history has been stolen from us. Today was a black day for our beloved country. It was a black day for the nation. It was a black day for the Muslim world. It was a black day for humanity. Those who did this, have done no good to democracy, have done no good to Pakistan, have done no good to Islam, have done no good to the Muslim world, and, they have done no good to humanity.

My brothers and sisters. Let us learn from todays tragic event. My brothers and sisters, let us put aside our differences today, and, unite under the flag of Pakistan, and, under the banner of humanity. Let us not be Sinhis or Balochis today, Punjabis or Pathans, brown or white, black or yellow. Let us not be Muslims or Christians, Hindus or Parsis, Sunnis or Shiites. Let us not be Muslim Leaguis or Jamaatis, pro-Bhutto or anti-Bhutto, pro-Musharraf or anti-Musharraf. Let us not be fauji or civilian, lawyers or politicians, businessmen or farmers. Let us not be secularists or Islamists. Let us not be left wing or right wing. Let us forget all that today, and, let us save our country today, let us unite today, let us form an iron wall. For united we stand, and, divided we fall.

Hello,

Ever thought why there is no threat to Qazi Hussain's life....when there is a threat to every leader life including Fazal-ur-Rehman

Jamaat is trying to impose Islamic rule through supporting suicide bombings in Pakistan....

They were sending Jihadist in Kashmir and Afghanistan..it is a known fact...now the same "Jihadist" have become terrorist and destroying Pakistan. , and Jamaat is supporting them....Is it possible that they have been sending Jihadist allover the world and suddenly they dont know about who is doing these suicide bombings.

Qazi wants Musharraf to go and impose his so called islamic rule...but luckily he does not have the majority of people with him to make government so he is supporting these terrorist who call themselves jihadist
killing thousands of innocent man, children and woman in Afhganistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

They are just making Pakistan weaker and weaker and when America will attack Pakistan for this reason that Al Quaida has become strong in Pakistan , then this **** Qazi will order his "Jihadist" to fight against America...and he will be happy that there are bombs allover Pakistan... that is what he calls "ISLAMIC LAW"...he will be the cheif then...thinking he ruling Pakistan.

There have been news earlier that many Al Quaida leaders were living in the house of Jamaat's party members.

The one man who should be arrested and interrogated is Qazi Hussain.

Dear All, AOA

I would like to congratulate all pakistanis (winners and those who lost) for this election which despite of heavy rigging attempts from sitting government, have been turned by Pakistani nation\'s power of vote.

I am a PPP supporter but I hope PPP involves PML N to form the coalition government, and this election becomes the turning point of our History.

May ALLAH Bless us all.

Ant & Grasshopper

Traditional Version

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.

Modern Version

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant\'s a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

Geo TV, BBC, ARY, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering
Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Asma Jahangir stages a demonstration in front of the Ant\'s house.

Imran Khan goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.

Amnesty International and Chief Justice Iftikhar criticizes the Pakistan Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) .

Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Islamic parties call for \'Hartal\' in Frontier and Baluchistan demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

MQM Coalition in Sindh immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.

Sheikh Rasheed allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Pakistan Railway Trains, aptly named as the \'Grasshopper Shalimar\'.

Finally, the President drafts an ordinance \' Anti State Terrorism
Against Grasshoppers Act\' [ASTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter. Mobilizes state agencies.

Punjab Govt. makes \' Special Reservation \' for Grasshoppers in
Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant is fined for failing to comply with ASTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, it\'s home is confiscated by the NAB and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by PTV.

Nawaz Sharief calls it \' A Triumph of Justice \'.

Benazir calls it \' Democratic Justice \'.

MQM calls it the \' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden\'

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz invites the Grasshopper to address the
National Assembly.

Many years later...

The Ants have since migrated to the US , Canada , UK and Middle East, have worked harder then they did before set up a multi-million dollar business.

1000s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation
somewhere in Pakistan ... As a result of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the Grasshoppers, ......

Pakistan is still a developing country !!!

Al-Qaeda claims Bhutto's death

Karachi, 27 Dec. (AKI) - (by Syed Saleem Shahzad) - A spokesperson for the al-Qaeda terrorist network has claimed responsibility for the death on Thursday of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

“We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahadeen,” Al-Qaeda’s commander and main spokesperson Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told Adnkronos International (AKI) in a phone call from an unknown location, speaking in faltering English. Al-Yazid is the main al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan.

It is believed that the decision to kill Bhutto, who is the leader of the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was made by al-Qaeda No. 2, the Egyptian doctor, Ayman al-Zawahiri in October.

Death squads were allegedly constituted for the mission and ultimately one cell comprising a defunct Lashkar-i-Jhangvi’s Punjabi volunteer succeeded in killing Bhutto.

Bhutto had just addressed a pre-election rally on Thursday in the garrison town of Rawalpindi when the bomb went off.

She had come to Rawalpindi after finishing a rapid election campaign, ahead of the January polls, in Pakistan's volatile North West Frontier Province (NWFP) where she had talked about a war against terrorism and al-Qaeda.

Reports say at least 15 other people were killed in the attack and several others injured.

As news of Bhutto's death spread throughout the country, there are reports that people have taken to the streets to protest the death of the leader of the PPP, which has the largest support of any party in Pakistan.

In the southern port city of Karachi, Bhutto's hometown, residents reportedly threw stones at cars and burnt tyres.
